Name Server - A computer running a program that converts domain names into appropriate IP addresses and vice versa.

Navigate - To find one's way around on the World Wide Web by following hypertext links from document to document, and from computer to computer.

.NET - When these letters appear as the last part of a Web address, it indicates that the host computer is run by a networking organization, frequently an ISP in the United States. Net can also refer to a network, or when capitalized, the Internet itself.

Netizen - A citizen of the Internet community: a worldwide, unstructured, instantaneously linked, and organically egalitarian population.

NetMail - Private electronic mail which is transmitted by a user calling one Bulletin Board System to another user calling a different Bulletin Board System. Also can refer to mail received from over the internet.

Netiquette - The rules of cyberspace civility. Usually applied to the Internet, where manners are enforced exclusively by fellow users.

Network - The connection of two or more computers together so that they can share resources results in a computer network. Connect two or more networks together and you have an internet.

News Server - A computer that controls access to a newsgroup.A users must make a connection with the news server in order to post or read messages from the newsgroup.

Network Resource - Something you want to share on the network; a software program, folder, or data file on a PC’s hard disk or an attached peripheral such as a printer or scanner. Also known as a shared resource.

Newsgroups - A discussion group on the Internet which is focused on a particular topic.Discussion takes place by posting messages for everyone to read, having online conversations, and sending email messages to individuals or the group. There are thousands of newsgroups on different subjects.

NIC (Network Interface Card) - A hardware card that lets a computer connect to a network.

NNTP (Network News Transport Protocol) - The protocol used by client and server software to carry USENET postings back and forth over a TCP/IP network. If you are using any of the more common software such as Netscape, Nuntius, Internet Explorer, etc. to participate in newsgroups then you are benefiting from an NNTP connection.

NRAM - Nonvolatile Random Access memory. A user-programmable memory chip whose data is retained when power to the chip is turned off. NRAM is used in many modems to store default settings.
